Welcome to the Framework for Excellence

The Framework for Excellence (FfE) is the Government’s performance assessment tool for further education colleges and post-16 education and training providers who receive funding from the Skills Funding Agency.

The FfE has been designed in consultation with the sector and our partners including the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), the Department of Education (previously DCSF) and Ofsted.

This website provides access to the latest FfE news, information, updates and developments. We encourage all interested parties to check this website on a regular basis.

Update on Framework for Excellence outcomes 2010

John Landeryou, Director of FE Directorate, BIS, and Sue Baldwin, Director of Young People’s Participation and Attainment Group, DfE, wrote to you in July about changes that were being made to the presentation of FfE data to make it clearer and simpler for use by learners, employers and the public. Their letter also gave an indication of the impact this would have on the planned timetable for releasing and publishing 2009/10 data. The work has now concluded and we will release data to individual providers in mid-October via the FfE application on the Provider Gateway.  Prior to the release of this data we will publish the Framework for Excellence: Outputs Guide 2009/10 which will give a full explanation of the changes we have made to the presentation of data and explain how the outputs were calculated. Providers will have an opportunity to check their data and raise any queries with the Agency after its release.

John Hayes, the BIS Minister of State for Further Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning (jointly with the DfE) has agreed to the publication of  2009/10 data which will now take place in mid-December 2010.

Implementation of Framework for Excellence in 2010/11

Due to this delay in releasing 2009/10 outcomes, the timetable for the implementation of the FfE in 2010/11 will change. We anticipate that, for those in scope, the Learner Views and Employer Views survey activity will begin in November 2010 and the survey windows will be extended to ensure that as many learners and employers as possible can take part. The Framework for Excellence: Provider Guide 2010/11, which will set out the scope and operational detail of the FfE in 2010/11, including the methodology for the Learner Destinations survey, will be published on the FfE website in October 2010 and will contain all the revised dates.

Please continue to check the FfE website for the latest information or if you have a specific query please contact: frameworkforexcellence@skillsfundingagency.bis.gov.uk.

Important Information – Framework for Excellence Bulletin

To facilitate the streamlining of provider communications coming from the Skills Funding Agency, all future Framework for Excellence information and news will be distributed via the Skills funding Agency’s newsletter - ‘Update’. This means that the Framework for Excellence bulletin will cease to be circulated and published.  All news, updates, timelines and developments about the Framework for Excellence will be communicated through Update which is sent to the Principal or Chief Executive of your organisation on a weekly basis. Going forward, this will help us form a consistent and uniform approach to the way we correspond with colleges and providers and will ensure all external Skills Funding Agency communications are channelled through one form of media.

The latest version of Update and the Update archive is available on the Skills Funding Agency website, click here to be taken to the relevant section of our website. You will be able to sign up to our Web Alerts service on the Skills Funding Agency website to make sure you are alerted when Update has been uploaded to the website.
